They haven’t changed much. After all, before health care, they were protesting about taxes (the reason for the name “Tea Party”, in fact)… after the Obama administration lowered taxes for 95% of Americans — and, since there are probably no billionaire teabaggers, for 100% of protesters.
If they were honest, they’d admit that what they’re really protesting is “the President is black, and black people scare me”. What else explains that they protested about taxes after they were lowered?

You nailed it Pedro. There is little doubt in my mind that the majority of people involved in the “Tea Party” movement are motivated by racism. Others involved tend to be liberal haters or conspiracy fanatics.

In all seriousness though, if they were to admit that they were racist bigots then the political spectrum would change the “Tea Party” movement and reveal what their true colors are. But those bigots don’t want that because it would shift the perception of the agenda they wish to propagate…that of Christian white male supremacy over everybody else that is not.
The Original Tea Party Incident involved a band of tea smugglers who protested the reduction of taxes levied by the British Crown on the legitimate importers of Tea. Truth is stranger than some people’s “patriotic memories.” In fact, Coffee soon became the emblematic P.C. American drink of intellectuals, yes, but also regular people who ventured in to the” City on the Hill” from their farms, and fishing boats.

Actually the coolest are the 1969 Boston Tea Partiers. The Psychedelic Posters are amazing.
I don’t see what it accomplished to lump together people and say they all do one thing? Are all tea people one homogenous mass? All women? All LGBTs?
As far as racism, the fragile social conventions in Canada, US, and most tourist areas you have been enjoying could disappear overnight. In the rest of the Americas, racism is the norm. Worldwide, it’s much worse, Arabs, Nationalists, Communists, many others, use force to bring death and racism to your doorstep.
Obama is continuing the suicidal spending of our government. Hundreds of trillions in debts are incurred and must be paid whether they are collected as taxes or added to our various national debt categories. The GDP of the world is only 60 Trillion.
It may be true there is more open display of peoples prejudices in these groups. Certainly though, you can see how much more civil it is at this point than the 60s. Their is a split between Sarah Palin and Ron Paul partiers. The Ron Paul ones are the ones to work with, to ensure social progress is not reversed out of spite.
Don’t be so sure the Washington DC elite will always protect your causes. When political winds shift, you may be sacrificed just as you were before.
The entire media and political machinery is being rendered obsolete through facebook and blogs such as this.
Do try to learn some economics, and realize their is a harmony of interests which must be made to prevail, even among racists and the races that are in conflict.
What an ignorant comment on the tea party movement. Are you unaware of the VAT-talk currently underway that will create a huge, regressive tax on the public, or the sudden realization in gov’t circles that Obamacare will add trillions to the debt? Also, fearless leader is now ‘agnostic’ on tax increases for those making less than 250K. Had he not lied his way through the campaign with the help of the media, and actually campaigned on what he planned to do, do you really think he could have won?
His transparent gov’t has more lobbyists and cronyism than Bush could ever have dreamed of. His White House counsel moves to Goldman Sachs on the eve of new laws that will both punish and reward Goldman Sachs, ensuring them permanent bailout protection?
As noted above, most of the people in that picture are probably Democrats, who opposed the Civil Rights Act that the Republicans passed. Jimmy Carter sat on a school board that changed the times schools let out so that white kids wouldn’t have to share the sidewalks with the black kids. Senator Robert Byrd, the ‘conscience of the Senate’, was a full-on member of the Klan!
The only people fixated on the President’s race are in his own party. Get over yourselves.
