"The fact that Hedges sees “wisdom” in it just shows how much he hates humanity, life, and the fact that he’s alive — and that other people can find joy in their lives. How dare they?"

I wouldn't say such a man hates that he's alive, I'd actually say much the opposite. The entire post is EGO driven. (by HIM not you)

His views are outragious, and thus he justifies them. That's a total ego.
He takes the stance that being imperfect means being absolutely damned, yet he'll thrive on the fact that the idea itself sells.

Nihilism, as I understand it, is faith in nothing. It is a doctrine that holds that we should try to look past our current conceptions and beliefs to see the basic, underlying patterns of the universe, then build up our knowledge around this more sound foundation. It holds that life has no innate purpose, so there is no objective point to anything, but does not deny subjective goals or decree life is suffering and death is desired.

I may be incorrect, but this is what I was under the impression nihilism was or at least in some cases could be.

Ross: I haven't looked it up (I'll do that later), but, to me, nihilism in a nutshell is this: there's no point to anything, life is suffering, give me sweet oblivion.

Hedges, of course, goes beyond that; he's like an evangelical nihilist... and evangelical in the "non-nihilists are monsters and are the enemy" sense. To him, anyone who tries to change things for the better is just another Hitler.

I think he gives Nihilists a bad name, as Nihilism by no means invokes one to "think" like he does.
