The point in the comic strip is not that “religion is worse”, or that “believers are worse”, but that the actions in the strip, as depicted (spreading rational inquiry by the sword, torturing people to recant creationism, etc.), would actually be examples of atrocities made in the name of atheism / humanism / science. Of course, nothing like that has ever happened.
In other words, if you consider:
1- atrocities made by believers
2- atrocities made by atheists / humanists / scientists
3- atrocities made in the name of religion
4- atrocities made in the name of atheism / humanism / science
it’s obvious that only 1, 2, and 3 ever happened. Not 4. Ever.
Yet they have the nerve to say that “atheism has led to”…
Note that I don’t blame religion for 1, only 3. What I ask in return is that they don’t blame atheism for 2.
Thanks, but you should really thank the author of the comic (who is linked in the post).
Incidentally, the last panel (the one with the pedophile “atheist priest”) doesn’t really fit in with the others, as it’s a case of 2, not 4. Much like religion can’t be blamed for child molesting priests, as they don’t rape children because of / in the name of their religion. (However, the church hierarchy can and should be blamed, as it shields them and relocates them instead of admitting the problem and actually doing something about it.)
At the risk of giving away the fact that I am not Catholic
The current pope is an idiot that is hurting things at least as much as he is helping.
If his theology were sound he would say that it is sin and man’s sinful nature that is causing the problems of the world.
But, he also recently said that the Catholic church is the only real church and the only way to heaven. Which left me to ask “I thought Jesus was the way to heaven, did he outsource to you or are you starting a revolt?”
Like it, but to be fair you could grab 6 atrocities from any somewhat popular and long-spanning school of thought.

Oh, I see…can’t believe I missed that! Thanks, great comic.
